How Dawson Partnership Strengthened Project Delivery with Newforma

Blog / Information Management

We recently caught up with Uzma Minhas, Senior Architect at Dawson Partnership (UAE) to talk about the realities of project delivery in practice, and how the right systems, leadership, and discipline shape successful outcomes.  In this conversation, Uzma shares her experience of strengthening project management processes, improving information control, and creating a calmer, more predictable delivery environment for both teams and clients.

Across my career, working on a wide range of projects and practices, one pattern has remained constant: the success or failure of a project is often determined by how well it’s management systems are implemented.

I’ve seen the consequences when those systems fall short.

And I’ve been responsible for trying to fix them.

Without clear structure, projects quickly become stressful, chaotic, and far harder to deliver successfully.

Uzma, how have project management systems changed over time?

Early in my career, most systems were manual and time-consuming.

Every document had to be filed, coded, and tracked by hand. Even simple administrative tasks required significant effort.

While today’s digital tools are far more advanced, the fundamentals of good project delivery haven’t changed.

Successful outcomes still rely on clear leadership, strong habits, discipline, well-managed information, and consistency across teams.

Technology improves productivity, but only when it supports the way a practice actually works.

What prompted change at Dawson Partnership?

When I joined Dawson Partnership, a practice known for its experience, innovation, and precision, one of my first priorities was to strengthen how projects were managed in practice, not just in principle.

The goal was simple: enhance the existing system so the team could work smarter, not harder.

That meant taking a close look at how Newforma had originally been configured and reshaping it to better support:

  • Project processes
  • Information accessibility
  • Control and tracking
  • Day-to-day coordination

Working closely with James Cooke, Senior Customer Success Manager at Newforma, whose technical insight was invaluable, we aligned the platform to the real needs of the practice.

What changed as a result?

The improved use of Newforma has brought clarity and structure to how Dawson Partnership delivers projects.

Today, Newforma sits at the centre of our project information management, supporting:

  • Controlled issue and tracking of information
  • Coordinated design reviews
  • Management of RFIs and submissions
  • Visibility of issues and communications
  • A clear, reliable project record

Just as importantly, it enables a proactive way of working.

Progress is visible. Information is coordinated.

Problems are addressed early rather than late.

The outcome is a calmer, more predictable delivery process and, for clients, that means:

  • Stronger collaboration
  • Fewer surprises
  • Projects run properly from start to finish

How does this connect to quality and risk management?

Dawson Partnership’s ISO 9001 accreditation independently confirms what we see daily: a controlled, continuously improving delivery system.

In practical terms, this leads to:

  • Reduced risk
  • Higher quality
  • Consistent outcomes across projects

Final thoughts

Great projects deserve more than great ideas.

They require clear thinking, strong leadership and a delivery process as carefully considered as the design itself.

At Dawson Partnership, that commitment is captured in three words: Experience. Innovation. Precision.

Not only in how we design. But in how we deliver.
