[heading_3]Newforma Contract Management Delivers Common Platform to Architects, Engineers and Contractors for Contract and Document Change Management[/heading_3]New product expands leading PIM solution’s capabilities to track document changes and contract administration workflows during constructionime

Manchester, N.H. – 28 April 2011Newforma®, a project information management(PIM) software company connectingarchitectureengineering and construction firms worldwide, today announced the results of final product acceptance testing of its new solution for comprehensive contract and document change management, Newforma® Contract Management. The new add-on product expands upon functions previously offered in Newforma’s flagship product, Newforma® Project Center, with the ability to manage change orders, addenda, supplemental instructions, bulletins, punch lists and more.
“We have been a Newforma customer since 2008 and have consistently benefitted from its streamlined process for managing RFIs and submittals,” said Lyle Lemon, design technology manager, Bruner/Cott & Associates, Inc. “The time and cost savings have been a clear advantage for our firm. The new contract management solution takes Newforma’s capabilities to a whole new level by extending its practical, flexible workflow approach to include contract and document change management. Now we can also process and track the impact of changes throughout the construction phase, improving project performance and reducing risk.”
Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company started using Newforma Project Center to manage RFIs and submittals in 2008 and is excited about expanded contract administration capabilities, particularly the ability to manage change orders, in the new Newforma Contract Management product. HEWV Principal Jean Sleeman, AIA, LEED AP said, “Just as Newforma brought order to our RFI and submittals processes, the new capabilities in Newforma Contract Management to manage change orders has freed us from our previously manual process, saving us an incredible amount of time. We have already converted 18 months of change order history on a large project into the dedicated activity centers of Newforma Contract Management. Our ability to track and monitor change orders enables us to be more proactive in our communication with our clients and other team members, reducing risk and increasing client satisfaction.”
“There are so many elements to manage during construction that it was time for us to expand upon our RFI and submittals management capabilities and develop a dedicated solution for comprehensive change management,” said Newforma Vice President of Product Management Bob Batcheler. “Using our Newforma Contract Management solution, project team members can now link related contract management items such as contracts, RFIs, proposal requests and change order proposals so that the entire project team can track the genesis and history of any specific change.”
Batcheler continued, “We are particularly proud of the product’s ability to show relationships between contract documents and other project information. With Newforma Contract Management, project teams can follow the thread of relationships between all of these objects to understand important decision making processes, why a decision was made, who made it, and perhaps most importantly, who is responsible to pay for it. Piecing together decision trails was previously very difficult at best, if not near impossible.”
Because there is no standardization of terminology in the AEC industry for contract administration related tasks – one firm’s “construction change directive” is another firm’s “interim directed change” – Newforma does not force its users to follow any specific naming convention. Instead, it allows project teams to decide on the nomenclature they will use for each different project. The new add-on product also includes extensive Microsoft Excel-based reporting capabilities. For example, a Contract Summary Report provides a detailed status report on the current contract amount and contract end date.
All Newforma Contract Management items can be selectively published for browser-based access by clients or external consultants through Newforma Info Exchange. This enables broader project team access by external consultants to critical information affecting decision making. Remote access to submittals and RFIs is also available via a smartphone by choosing the Newforma® Mobile option.
Newforma Contract Management will be commercially available in the second quarter of 2011 upon completion of product acceptance testing by industry-leading AEC firms participating in the Newforma Limited Customer Release program.
