BIM, PIM and successful evolution

02.03.10

Dear customers, partners and friends of Newforma:

The architecture, engineering and construction industry is evolving better ways of working. It might seem that project information management (PIM) technology is running parallel to building information modeling (BIM) as two separate tracks of evolution. But, as the articles below show, PIM is playing an integral role in the successful implementation of model-based design. And Newforma Project Center software for PIM is helping individuals and firms succeed in other ways. Keep reading to see how.

How PIM is supporting BIM: structural engineering markups

This month’s AECBytes Tips and Tricks section features an article by Craig Stauffer, S.E., and Steve Farvour, S.E., of PCS Structural Solutions. Craig and Steve show how Newforma Project Center is enabling their transition to BIM-based design. Newforma software permits workflows similar to leaning over the desk and marking up the drawing, but suitable to dispersed team members. Click here for a pictorial presentation.

How PIM is supporting BIM: disparate construction teams

What software are you using to manage all the project information that results from model-based design and integrated project delivery (IPD)? In Building Design & Construction, Senior Associate Editor Jeff Yoders presents tips from Perini, Gensler, Tishman, Grunley and Array Healthcare Facilities Solutions. Read "The Enablers: How project information management supports BIM projects."

Why Newforma customers renew their subscriptions

Newforma Director of Customer Satisfaction Dan Conery has asked four Newforma customers why they renew their subscriptions to Newforma Project Center software. Click here to see ADD Inc Principal and CIO Jill Rothenberg, Bruner/Cott CAD Manager Lyle Lemon, Steffian Bradley Architects CIO Spencer Warncke and Tsoi/Kobus Architect Brad Schuck as they answer Dan and tell what would happen if they chose NOT to renew! Help wanted – and delivered

We recently encountered a first for Newforma: An HOK help-wanted ad which includes "basic proficiency in Newforma" among the preferred skills for a job candidate. While the fundamentals of our project information management software can be learned in an hour, it’s good to see this recognition of its greater value to an organization. Articles by Andrew Hollomon; Ed Culican, P.E.; and Bob Batcheler show why Newforma PIM software proficiency makes a person more valuable to a business.

Newformants by the score

Group photos are inherently boring; their value doesn’t usually become apparent until years later, after the collective’s endeavor has been tested by time and the individual members have dispersed to other ventures. Then we look back on these pictures and think, “Those were the days.” In the spirit of capturing those days while they’re still these days, Newforma Vice President Bob Batcheler shot this company picture at our January company meeting.
